Dexter Episode 6-2 Review: Once Upon a Time

Reviews, Shows

We’re episodes into Dexter’s sixth season and there isn’t a clear path for the season. The serial killer, Travis, parallels Dexter, hiding in the open to subdue people and has an old guy (Eddie James Olmos) telling him things who like Harry. There’s something religious going on, but nothing clear yet. This week, Dexter investigates Brother Sam (Mos Def) who he believes to be an unreformed killer. Dexter discovers that he’s not a killer–for now–but again there is a religious thing going around. None of this is particularly clear and this lack of focus is troubling.

Deb becoming lieutenant was a bit gimmicky, with Matthews making the promotion only to get back at LaGuerta, but it has promise. (And let’s be honest–Deb isn’t really worse than the rest of the boneheads at Miami Metro.) As Dexter points out in an all-too-obvious voiceover, Deb may be the one in charge of hunting him down when the time comes. Of course, that will probably happen 10 seasons later when the ratings start falling. Until now, though, it is a looming possibility that’s far more exciting than Deb and Quinn.

Score: 8.3/10
