Hot Red Band Trailer: 21 Jump Street

Media, Trailers, Video

No way this could possibly work. Sony Pictures has went and done a comedic riff on the ’80s TV series 21 Jump Street with the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

Over at the film’s Facebook page, a three-minute red-band trailer for 21 Jump Street dropped. Any fears that I had with the original project have been greatly diminished. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are the two leads as former high schoolers (be sure to check out the hair Tatum is sporting in the flashback scene) who become a bumbling pair of bicycle cops on the police force. When they get transferred to 21 Jump Street after a drug bust they begin working undercover at a high school to get to the bottom of a new drug and the ring behind it all.

Hopefully this red band trailer isn’t everything, but knowing that Scott Pilgrim scribe Michael Bacall co-wrote the comedy with Jonah Hill, I think more goodness is to be expected. And I may raze Tatum quite a bit, but he and Hill have pretty good chemistry. Much more than Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell methinks.

The supporting cast is comprised of Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Jake Johnson, Dakota Johnson, Park & Recreation‘s Nick Offerman, Rob Riggle and Dave Franco (yes, younger bro to James) with Johnny Depp making a cameo appearance.

21 Jump Street jumps into theaters on March 16th, 2012.
