Green Bay Packers vs San Diego Chargers: Aaron Rodgers Overcome Weak Defense in Week 9

Columns, Top Story

Green Bay Packers 45, San Diego Chargers 38

Rhett Davis loves Rodgers:  Aaron Rodgers continues to look fantastic as he leads his Packers to a hard-fought victory over the Chargers.  Philip Rivers pulled a Tony Romo in the game by throwing several interceptions that turned into touchdowns for the Packers.  The Chargers did come back from a three score deficit to try and overcome the huge lead by Packers.  Due to their inability to get it done, the Packers kept their lead and would win making them 8-0.

Daniels is less impressed: As the Packers roll through opponent after opponent, it’s being lost that their defense is giving up an obscene number of points.  Phil Rivers threw two Pick 6s.  The fact that the Packers only won by 7 when their defense scored 14 on the road to giving up 38 points should be a bit troubling.

My Take:  The Packers secondary has been bad, but not as bad as it has looked.  The Packers seem to play really hard to get a lead, then let off of the aggressiveness as the game goes on.  My worry has been since Week 1 that this catches up to them, and I still think it might, but it’s looking more and more like that will *gulp* be in the playoffs.  I really hope the Packers lose a regular season game to give them some edge.  Their defense can be more than scary early and then rely on Rodgers accuracy to win games.  He’s an NFL quarterback… sooner or later an interception will come at a bad time.  It’d be much better if it came with a big lead.
