10 Thoughts On… South Park Episode 15-13: A History Channel Thanksgiving

10 Thoughts, Reviews

We are back! This week looks to be a commentary on the history of Thanksgiving, so let’s see how it turns out!

1. The boys are learning about Thanksgiving in school, and later watch a History Channel special on Thanksgiving. The special has outlandish claims about how Thanksgiving was inhabited by aliens, backed up by serious-sounding scientists and professors.

2. There is a 1/16 Native American character recurring throughout the episode that defends the Native point of view of Thanksgiving and not the American or Alien versions.

3. After the boys start making a research project about aliens on Thanksgiving, they are apprehended by the History Channel itself, who interview the boys. Kyle is angrily retorting their claims, but they edit them together with him billed as a professor from DEVRY. Hilarious.

4. Finally Kyle’s theory that the Pilgrims might even be aliens is disproved by 10 History Channel workers who travel to Plymouth Rock and test out Kyle’s other “theory” that a hand outline is the symbol that represents aliens.

5. However, we then see an Alien Pilgrim hurdling through space via a wormhole, crashing into the Earth with a crater.

6. It turns out that Pilgrims and Indians are both aliens from other planets, four others along with Earth connected with wormholes the shape of a human hand outline – all of Kyle’s theories turned out to be true.

7. The History Channel seeks out Kyle for guidance, since they believe him to be correct about all his alien theories. They finally find him and team up with the Alien Pilgrim in his quest to re-open the wormhole. This episode is totally off the rails and awesome.

8. The possession of stuffing turns out to be pivotal in the war between Pilgrims and Indians, and there is a shortage. When the Pilgrims win, stuffing returns to dinner tables everywhere in time for Thanksgiving.

9. The wormhole on Earth is somehow controller by Natalie Portman, who refuses to open her wormhole at first. Finally, she agrees to after being wined and dined by Kyle. This allows the Pilgrims to take control of their portal and murder all the Indians left with heat lasers. Crazy!

10. At the end, the boys are watching the History Channel accounting of the Alien Thanksgiving, who then add the possible element of ghosts – was the first Thanksgiving HAUNTED?!

Overall: The second to last episode of the year is at the same time timely but also timeless – it didn’t involve super timely politics or social or celebrity commentary. The Thanksgiving craziness involving aliens was super creative and really funny, and the strange History Channel mafioso of truth/making up truth was good too. Strong episode.
