UFC on FOX Ratings: 5.7 Million Viewers for Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos

News

Last night’s UFC On FOX debut pulled in an average of 4.64 million viewers during it’s primetime slot on the schedule from 9-10pm, approximately. Final numbers won’t known for a short while.

The hour long broadcast snagged a 2.4/7 rating for adults 18-49 and and overall 2.7/5 household rating, stats that place the event second in terms of the night’s primetime viewing.

A tremendous game between Oregon and Stanford drew a bit more viewers in the exact same demographic; the game between two top 10 teams on ABC which drew 7.1 million viewers between 9-10pm for a 2.5/7 rating for A18-49.

Update: As first reported by Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, it turns out that the fast nationals didn’t take into account the fact that on the West Coast the Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos fight aired at 5pm to 6pm rather than 9pm to 10pm. So the figures originally given were diluted by the inclusion of weaker filler programming that aired on Fox affiliates on the West Coast from 9pm to 10pm. The actual figures are much more impressive than those originally reported. The broadcast secured a 3.1 rating, which translates into 5.7million viewers. This makes it the most watched MMA show in the history of North American television, comfortably the averages secured by EliteXC and Strikeforce on CBS and even Kimbo Slice’s UFC fights. The UFC are rightly thrilled with the rating considering that the fight went a minute long which denied them the opportunity to see the audience build as people tuned in to see the action.
