Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller Will Headline First UFC Card on FX

News

Two fighters looking for redemption, Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller, will have the honors of headlining the first UFC on FX card.

It was announced on Thursday by Dana White that the two lightweights will be facing off on the inaugural UFC on FX card. “Two of the top ranked lightweights in the UFC have verbally agreed to square off in the main event on FX, as top ten ranked Jim Miller takes on explosive fan favorite Melvin ‘The Young Assassin’ Guillard,” confirmed White.

Jim Miller came up short at “UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle” where he lost to Ben Henderson by way of unanimous decision. Although Miller is a game competitor, it was clear that day that Henderson had showed up 100% prepared. Still, Miller put on an impressive performance that showed heart and resiliency.

Melvin Guillard is also coming off of a disappointing loss. At UFC 136, Guillard made his way to the octagon oozing with confidence and pride, and rightfully so. Until then Guillard looked virtually unstoppable. He was on a five fight win-streak, stringing together knockout victories over solid competitors like Evan Dunham, Shane Roller and Waylon Lowe. The case at UFC 136 was simply that Guillard was caught off guard by Lauzon and fell into a submission.

Melvin Guillard is one of the most dangerous strikers in the lightweight division, but Miller poses a challenge because he’s never been knocked out before. Styles make fights, and the UFC officials made the right choice by choosing this to be the first headliner for their FX debut.
