News

After defeating quick replacement Dan Miller at UFC 134 in Brazil, Rousimar Palhares is set to make his return home in January.

Mike “The Master of Disaster” Massenzio and Rousimar Palhares are set to do battle in the middle of the octagon at UFC 142, which takes place on January 14, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. While nothing has been signed off on yet, the bout was announced by Dana White on Tuesday after both camps verbally agreed to the fight.

Rousimar Palhares (13 Wins, 3 Losses), has won four of his last five fights in the UFC. His only defeat as of late came from the hands of Nate Marquardt at UFC Fight Night: Marquardt vs. Palhares in September. Since then, he went on to dominate Dave Branch with a kneebar, then earned a decision victory over Dan Miller at UFC 134. Palhares is known for his wide variety of leg submissions, already defeating six of his mixed martial arts opponents with heel-hooks and kneebars. Palhares’ last victim was David Avellan at the ADCC 2011 Submission Wrestling Champions event, where he eventually went on to get the silver medal in his weight division.

Mike Massenzio (13-5) is making his return to the octagon for his third bout on this UFC run. After losing to Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 131 by way of unanimous decision, Massenzio made his return to the middleweight division at UFC 136 when he earned a victory over Steve Cantwell.
