There are some books flying high in the DC Comics Relaunch’s New 52 like Nightwing, Batman, Suicide Squad, Justice League, Demon Knights, and others. On the other hand there are some less ably executed books story-wise, but are visually amazing such as Batman: Dark Knight and the Flash.
Continuing in the tradition of New 52 bait-and-switch cliffhangers, demonstrated recently on the last page of Batman: Dark Knight #2 and the first few pages of issue #3, comes the ending to Flash #3.
Here is the last page, spoiled for you – this a Spoiler Warning piece after all – of Flash #3…
… where Barry Allen is shot, um, “dead”. Now, we KNOW he isn’t dead despite Dan DiDio’s “dead is dead” New 52 policy. Barry’s in future solicits of the book and he was only recently brought back from the dead. So why not a more plausible cliffhanger?
There is clearly more going on with the Flash #3 cliffhanger, but seems cliched no matter how beautifully drawn and colored it is. :( I know some will say its all about the journey of the story not necessarily the destination, but this cliffhanger just felt implausible. I’m still onboard for issue #4 as I’m curious what how Barry comes back to life, which perhaps is the point of a cliffhanger. :)
