The creatures that evolve from humanity are called PROTOFORMS, and one of them evolves into something ALIEN fans will recognize – a STAR BEAST.
It was suggested that this would only turn into an ALIEN prequel in the last moments, but reading the synopsis reveals that what Fassbender said in interviews, that “ALIEN is in the film’s DNA” is pretty accurate. The plot reads exactly like something that would be a precursor to ALIEN.
The plot suggests that the Nostromo going to Zeta 2 Reticuli was planned well in advance. I’m not certain where PROMETHEUS and ALIEN fit together in the timeline, but I’d imagine that ALIEN can’t be more than a hundred years or so afterwards.
