ROH Sets a Record [Press Release]

A NEW PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING RECORD WAS SET FOR THE LONGEST MATCH IN MODERN HISTORY

BALTIMORE, MD (December 6, 2011) – On Sunday afternoon December 4, 2011, Ring of Honor presented “Northern Aggression” at the Greensboro Coliseum Event Center in Greensboro, NC. With a loaded undercard featuring the likes of TJ Perkins vs. Jay Lethal, The All Night Express vs. The Bravados, The Young Bucks vs. Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander, & more, the event was highlighted with an All-Star 8-Man Elimination Tag that pitted ROH World Tag Team Champions Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin, “Die Hard” Eddie Edwards, & El Generico against Jay & Mark Briscoe, Roderick Strong, and “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin with a $10,000 purse allotted to the winning team of this battle.

When this bout was signed several weeks prior, ROH officials knew it would be something special, but little did anyone suspect that it would make history and, at 1 hour 20 minutes and 33 seconds, become the longest match in ROH’s 10-year history. While research is still being done to 100% confirm, this would likely be the longest match in modern major league pro wrestling history!

The ROH record was originally set on August 7th, 2004 at the “Testing the Limit” event in Essington, PA where Austin Aries faced Bryan Danielson in a two out of three falls match that lasted 75 minutes. The main event last Sunday at the Greensboro Coliseum Event Center went eclipsed that record. It was non-stop action from bell to bell with eight of the absolute best in the wrestling business showing just how much they love their sport. Those lucky fans who attended live will never forget what they saw. The heated action kept them on their feet the entire time. When Eddie Edwards eliminated Roderick Strong, earning his team a check for $10,000, the place erupted in excitement and appreciation for the epic contest they had just been a part of for 80 grueling minutes.

We are also happy to announce that, for those ROH faithful who were unable to attend the live event, the match was taped to be broadcast on “Ring of Honor Wrestling” TV in early January. Unfortunately, due to the length of the match, the TV show will not be able to air the match in its entirety, but fans will be able to witness this history making match uninterrupted from start to finish when it becomes available on DVD! This will be a must have for anyone’s collection. Just check out what fans in attendance had to say afterwards:

We here at Ring of Honor just want to say thank you to the fans who helped make our first trip to Greensboro, NC a special one, and we also want to tip our hats to Charlie Hass, Shelton Benjamin, El Generico, Eddie Edwards, Roderick Strong, Michael Elgin, and Jay & Mark Briscoe for showing the world their passion, for demonstrating their love for the sport for 80+ minutes, and for reminding us all just why it is we, as fans, love professional wrestling. Ring of Honor prides itself on being the home for true professional wrestling and events like “Northern Aggression” are proof that it’s more than just hyperbole.
