Next year, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will celebrate the studio’s 100th anniversary by releasing a number of catalog titles on Blu-ray. Joining already announced To Kill a Mockingbird and All Quiet on the Western Front is a Steven Spielberg film that, in combination with George Lucas’s Star Wars, ushered in what we call the summer blockbuster. Spielberg’s classic film stars Roy Scheider as Martin Brody, a police chief who has to team up with a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a crazed shark hunter (Robert Shaw) in order to defeat a man-eating shark plaguing Brody’s New England beach community.
Jaws is a thriller with one of the most recognizable pieces of music. All you need to hear is the first few beats and you’ll be able to identify the film. Grossing over $470 million worldwide, the film would win three Academy Awards for Best Film Editing, Best Original Dramatic Score, and Best Sound. It was also nominated for Best Picture.
Universal has not yet revealed technical specs or announced supplementary material for this Blu-ray.
Jaws is expected to street on Aug. 14, 2012.
