Around The World In 80 Ways Episode 1 Preview: Boston Rob Returns To Canadian Television Tonight

Features, Previews

There is just something about Boston Rob.

The recent Survivor Redemption Island winner competed on the show four times before finally winning the $1 million prize and also competed on two seasons of The Amazing Race.

His latest project is a show called Around The World In 80 Ways which premieres across Canada tonight at 10 p.m. on History Television. The show sees him partnered with former Monster Truck driver Dennis Anderson and the show sees the pair travel around the world. I know what you’re thinking. “I have seen this before.” Well, here’s the thing. The catch is that they have to use a different method of transportation for every leg of the trip.

Tonight’s premiere sees Dennis destroying Rob’s car with his famous Gravedigger Monster Truck. They are then forced to ride a gigantic “walking beast” robot that moves at only 2 mph. Other methods used in the opening episode are a commercial airliner and a bus as the pair make their way through Peru eventually landing in Lake Titicaca where they have to hurl themselves across a precarious zipline.

That also means that for the rest of their journey, they can no longer use the walking beast, an airliner, a bus or a zipline as each vehicle can only be used once.

Ultimately, the show lives and dies with Rob’s personna as he clearly is the leader in the exercise with Dennis being his sometimes unwilling co-pilot.

The show can be hokey at times, but its unique premise is what is its truly redeeming quality. The show is also educational. In addition to watching the relationship between the unlikely leading duo continues to evolve, lessons are learned about the places that are being travelled to as well as the different methods of transportation that are being used.

The show debuted in the U.S. in October and I have been anxiously awaiting its Canadian premiere.
