In an interview with CNY KISS FM in London last week during the TNA / Impact Wrestling tour, Sting talked about almost signing with WWE last year, why Undertaker one of his remaining dream opponents to face, and how he currently goes year to year in terms of staying active and not retiring.
Sting on almost signing with WWE last year and other times throughout his career
Sting said he was “very, very close” to signing with WWE last year, and when asked if he regretted not jumping ship, he remarked: “Yes and no. Who wouldn’t want to say they did at least one WrestleMania? I’d like to be able to say I did at least one of those, and that would be it.”
“I’ve had great conversations with him (Vince McMahon) over the years and been real close on probably three or four different occasions of going up there. But, there was always a need met or a desire of mine met with WCW and now with TNA, so I stay.”
Sting talks about The Undertaker as his dream opponent:
“I’d have to say the top one, and it’s all over Twitter, I might as well just comment on it – Undertaker. Wrestling fans have wanted to see Sting vs. Undertaker for years. And, I think between his gimmick and mine, it could be pretty cool.”
Sting on remaining active in wrestling:
“Every year, I say, ‘I think this will be the last year. Nostalgia is huge. For me, it’s huge.” He also said it’s the fans that keep him engaged and active in pro wrestling.
CB’s Slant: Good, honest answers from Sting. He’s one of the most stand-up guys in pro wrestling history, and personally I’d love to see a Sting vs. Undertaker showdown at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, with both wrestlers leaving it all on the table and then retiring right after their match concludes. Then, in 2014, have Sting and Taker both inducted into the Hall of Fame.
After all, anything can happen in WWE and pro wrestling, right?
