UPDATED: Super Bowl Champion Jason Pierre-Paul Backs Out of Widely Reported Impact Wrestling TV Taping Segment

News, Top Story

AFTERNOON UPDATE: NY Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is reportedly taking Jason Pierre-Paul’s place at tonight’s Impact taping, filling the role of a verbal and limited physical exchange with Kurt Angle.

ORIGINAL STORY BELOW:

FOX Sports originally reported over the weekend that New York Giants’ Super Bowl Champion Jason Pierre-Paul was scheduled for this week’s TNA Impact Wrestling TV taping where he was to have a (limited) physical in-ring confrontation with Kurt Angle.

According to the Wrestling Observer, JPP backed out of the deal because the New York Giants never actually signed off on JPP’s TNA Impact Wrestling appearance and now TNA will have to scramble to find something else to fill what was going to be a cool and buzzworthy guest spot featuring an awesome NFL player.

CB’s Slant: This was supposed to be a huge win for TNA to get the visual of Jason Pierre-Paul in the ring with Kurt Angle since it was sure to generate mainstream headlines for Impact this week. Now, however, TNA looks really bad for prematurely spreading news of JPP’s appearance only to have him back out (or be forced by the Giants to back out) at the last minute.
