It was only a matter of time before a studio started to cater to the collector when it comes to a 3D movie release. Before it was tie-ins with a fast-food establishment like McDonald’s, enticing people to collect drinking glasses, toys, etc. Now it appears that RealD and Marvel have teamed up to release a set of four character themed RealD 3D glasses. As if the 3D surcharge wasn’t enough of a cash grab, at least these glasses are something worth hanging on to, as opposed to the traditional black frames.
The glasses feature designs for Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Thor wears glasses? Aside from Tony Stark and Bruce Banner working in a lab, I’m not sure these superheroes sport eyewear when besting baddies. Nevertheless, starting in April fans will be able to collect the RealD 3D glasses at special events, fan screenings, and as part of online giveaways. They will also be available at select AMC Theatres, National Amusement Theatres and independent theatres throughout the U.S. beginning as early as midnight on May 3rd.
