Multiverse & Before Watchmen Watch: Dan DiDio Open To Ongoing Minutemen Series

News, Top Story

When I pop into a few comic book shoppes throughout the week, some still slip a free issue of Comic Shop News into my bag. In many cases the news is, well, stale. In the age of the internet these traditional print newspapers or magazines seem to tread on stories we already knew.

In reading Comic Shop News #1294, I was struck by some new new nuggets from DC Comics co-publisher regarding Before Watchmen.

When DiDio was asked about the possibility of an ongoing Minutemen series after the Before Watchmen mini-series “events”, DiDio responded by saying: “We’re waiting to see how it works – how fans react. We’ll go from there.” So, that is clear indication that DC Comics is open to an idea of a Minutemen ongoing series, and perhaps other ongoing series or other mini-series, stemming from Before Watchmen IF some or all of the books are successful. IMHO, Minutemen is a cool concept for more stories. (Sorry Mr. Moore.)

As DC Comics is well know for its New 52 multiverse (since the multiverse changed as a result of Flashpoint as confirmed earlier), DiDio was asked were the Watchmen “fit” in the multiverse. DiDio’s response while fair may drive some DC fans who like order and understand how all stories align in the DC Universe. He stated that: “We wanted ti stay true to the material. There’s a very specific tone and style here. If you consider it part pf another world, that’s not really what we’re focusing on… We want to stay true to that Watchmen world.” Essentially, don’t worry, be happy, worry not about multiverse and just enjoy thre Before Watchmen books.

Interesting times ahead in comic book shoppers and on messageboards. :)
