When I first broke this Spider-Men story back in February, I had predicted that it was Miles Morales and 616 Spider-Man.
Today, on Comic Book Resources, Marvel released the following image revealing that Spider-Men will be a five issue crossover involving the main Marvel universe’s Peter Parker and Ultimate Spider-Man’s Miles Morales, by the terrific Ultimate Spider-Man creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Sarah Pichelli.
I know a lot of people might be turned off by the idea of Marvel crossing their mainstream universe with Ultimate, but I think it’s a great way to celebrate Spidey’s 50th anniversary. It also helps that I am a huge Miles Morales fan, and I would love to see how he responds to a Peter Parker who’s been at this for a while.
And besides, I give Marvel some credit for waiting this long. The Ultimate Universe has been around 12 years now, I would have expected a crossover long before now. I definitely will be buying this one!
Marvel.com also announced that Mark Bagley will be drawing a “comic shop variant” for comic shops “customized to feature photos of participating stores and/or store logos on the front as well as a personalized ad with contact information on the back.”
I am a huge Mark Bagley fan (my first Spider-Man comics were during his Amazing Spider-Man run, and I loved his New Warriors work), so this definitely a huge selling point for me on these variant covers (which I usually don’t care much about).
