As seen in the picture of Brock Lesnar’s new WWE ring gear we posted last week, Lesnar is being allowed to wear clothing that has his sponsors on them. Lesnar’s team negotiated a very unique deal as he is the first person in WWE history to be under WWE contract and have that right.
The outfits which WWE wrestlers wear between the ropes are tightly controlled, and historically-speaking feature only in-house logos and designs to encourage merchandise sales. Looking ahead, it may well prove to be the case that Brock’s sponsor-emblazoned shorts are simply an exception to the rule, referencing his promise to bring “legitimacy” to the WWE. On the other hand, could this small step towards emulating the look of more mainstream professional sports open up similar sponsorship deals for other wrestlers in the future? Time will tell.
