On New Girl this week, Jess spent some time with Russell’s daughter, CeCe faced a pregnancy scare and all hell broke loose in the loft.
This was a very funny episode, although it did require you to suspend disbelief a little in order to enjoy it. After Russell’s experience spending the weekend at Jess’s apartment recently, does anyone really think he’d be comfortable sending his daughter there? And what about this kid’s mom? Would she be comfortable sending her tween daughter to spend the night at daddy’s new girlfriend’s loft where she lives with three men? I should think not. But we’ll go with it, because it was hilarious.
Jeanne Tripplehorn guest starred as Russell’s ex-wife, and the bit between Jess and her about whether she and Russell were officially divorced made me giggle since it made me think of polygamy, and Tripplehorn’s old gig on Big Love.
Eyes The Color of Poop
Once settled in the loft, Russell’s daughter Sarah quickly developed a crush on Nick. What is she, like, 12? That would make her closer in age to Nick’s current girlfriend than Nick is! Because, as we discovered, Nick was dating an eighteen year-old. Jess spent most of the weekend trying to convince Sarah to come out of various rooms she’d locked herself in, because that’s what tweenage girls do when they like someone.
When Jess wasn’t babysitting Sarah, she was babysitting CeCe who thought she might be pregnant. They tried to keep that news from Schmidt until enough time had passed for CeCe to take a test, but alas, Schmidt found out.
It didn’t surprise me that Schmidt reacted really well to the news that he might be a father. Schmidt might be a douche, but he’s also a sweetheart. And he has his life together the most of pretty much everyone in that loft. It was fun to watch him react with such maturity to the situation, and once CeCe did get her period, he made sure she didn’t see the skywriting marriage proposal he’d arranged. This is just one more step for CeCe and Schmidt towards becoming an actual couple.
Winston’s storyline was outside the loft this week, as we saw him help his boss through a difficult situation. This wasn’t my favorite storyline, but I liked that it has cemented some things we’ve learned about Winston since the series began – he’s nurturing. We saw it when he helped out Jess’s bell-playing students, we saw it when he was a nanny to Alvin, and now he’s essentially a nanny to an insecure fat man.
I thought “Kids” was a pretty solid episode that delivered a lot of funny moments, particularly for Schmidt and Nick. What did you guys think?
