Roy Nelson vs. Gabriel Gonzaga Confirmed For UFC 146

News

Anybody who ever wondered why UFC always says “Card Subject To Change” at the end of their promos should take a look at a timeline of events for UFC 146.

Due to issues stemming from Alistair Overeem’s drug test results, the all heavyweight main-card has seen an unbelievable amount of change since Friday night. Alistair Overeem was taken out of the main-event and was replaced by Frank Mir. Cain Velasquez, who was originally scheduled to fight Mir, was given a new opponent in the debuting Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, who was originally supposed to fight Roy Nelson. It seemed as if the rug was pulled out from under Nelson’s feet and he was left without an opponent. Joe Silva and Dana White work fast, however, and they found a new opponent for “Big Country”.

Dana White announced on Twitter that Roy Nelson would be facing Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 146. Gonzaga just made a successful UFC return at UFC 142 after being cut in October of 2010, and is looking to prove that he is still a UFC caliber fighter at Roy Nelson’s expense.

The full main card for UFC 146:

Heavyweight Championship: Junior dos Santos (Champion) vs. Frank Mir
Heavyweight bout: Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva
Heavyweight bout: Roy Nelson vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Heavyweight bout: Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve
