Festival Favorite Beasts of the Southern Wild Gets A Lovely Trailer

Media, Trailers

Over at Apple Trailers the first trailer for Fox Searchlight’s Beasts of the Southern Wild has been revealed. And boy is it something special. Evoking an ethereal quality that we got with last year’s release of Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life (also a Fox Searchlight release), Wild is like a magical cross between Where the Wild Things Are and the director’s eye of a Malick or John Hilcoat (The Road, upcoming Lawless). It’s got magical beasts, swamps, fireworks, parades, and maybe even the secret to the Universe.

In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.

Beasts of the Southern Wild opens in limited release on July 27, 2012. For more information, check out the official web site at www.welcometothebathtub.com.
