The Avengers Blu-ray Release To Include 30 Minutes Of Deleted Scenes

Disc Announcements, News

By now you’ve probably read that Marvel’s The Avengers dominated the weekend at movie theaters and in the process broke the opening weekend record which had been previously broken last year by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. We knew it was going to be big, but I’m not sure people expected the enormity of its success. A commercial hit already (with more than $400 million grossed overseas), and a critical hit as well – best rated comic book film since The Dark Knight – people just can’t get enough of seeing this superhero dream team consisting of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America (each of them stars of their own individual films) plus Hawkeye and Black Widow.

Even though it’s only been in U.S. theaters for three days, it’s never too early to talk about the eventual Blu-ray/DVD release. During a press junket, director Joss Whedon spoke with Collider and revealed that The Avengers Blu-ray will have 30 minutes of deleted scenes on it. I know what you’re thinking. 30 MINUTES?!. Clocking in a 142 minutes the movie was already lengthy. But as Whedon readily admits, the original cut of his superhero team epic was three hours long. Some of the cutting room footage involved Captain America and his period of readjustment, having been a “Capsicle” for seventy years.
