Veep – Episode 1-3 Review – “Take Your Daughter To Work Day”

Reviews

I won’t say much about Veep this week since, frankly, Sunday night TV is overwhelming. But I thought it was very funny, and I really liked the introduction of Selina’s college-aged daughter Catherine.

Catherine added a new layer to Selina’s life and how much she’s sacrificed to get where she is. Catherine’s presence also let us see an outsider’s perspective, which is really a reflection of what we see as viewers. It was a mixture of discomfort and disbelief at how idiotic and self-involved these people are.

What I love about Veep is that, ultimately, this is a workplace comedy. And it couldn’t have come along at a better time, since I’m so over The Office. It’s like a jaded, more powerful Parks and Recreation. I love how everyone gets a turn at being a victim, a jerk, the only one holding things together, and embarrassingly incompetent.

I loved how disgusted Catherine was that her mother would have the name of a hurricane changed. To us, it may not seem like that big a deal. But it was an insight into her personal life, and what she’s like as a mother. And all the stuff with the adoption of the rescue dog, and the reveal of Mike’s fake dog was comedy gold. What did you guys think? Are you liking Veep so far?

Despite that setback, she grew up to be a television aficionado and pop culture addict.
