At the end of each column, I usually have an unrelated thought, something that doesn’t really merit a full column of its own but still that I wanted to mention. Needless to say these unrelated thoughts pile up a lot faster than full column topics, so occasionally I need to dedicate a whole column to them before they get too out of date. So what follows is a series of unrelated thoughts.
With Goldust gone, it would seem that we have missed the chance to have Goldust vs. Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental championship. This was one of my dream matches for WrestleMania but I’d be happy at this point to have it on any PPV. What happened to this match? It seemed like for two weeks there they were setting up this match for WrestleMania, but then without warning, Dustin Rhodes disappeared off of TV and Cody Rhodes got shoved into this match with the Big Show. Were the crowds that bad for those two weeks? If so, shame on you crowds.
Speaking of dream matches for WrestleMania I’ve decided that I would love to see one more Rock vs. Stone Cold match at a WrestleMania. I know all the reasons that would be bad, (Impossible to top what they’ve already done, time away from the current roster, two guys who are getting older) but the video promos leading up to this match would be amazing.
Lets look at John Cena for a second. Right now it looks like Cena has an all but guaranteed victory at Over the Limit on Sunday. Everything that Johnny Ace could use to with the match has been taken away from him. Of course we all know (hope) that something has to happen because a genuine one-on-one match between these two would be terrible, unless it lasts 3-5 minutes to save room for some of the more interesting matches on the card. But do we want Cena to win? On one hand, at and since WrestleMania, Cena has been far more entertaining that he has in the past year. And the fastest way to destroy that is have Cena beat a new guy every month until he is once again nothing but an unstoppable Super Cena. But then again, If Cena loses, we’re likely to get a Cena vs. Laurinaitis II.
On a side note, the Over the Limit Pay-Per-View is only three years old, but this will be the first one without John Cena in an “I Quit” match.
We recently passed the ten-year anniversary of WWF getting changed to WWE. It’s not really an important milestone or anything but I remember hearing about the change from a classmate and thinking that there was some kind of practical joke at first before declaring that a stupid and pointless decision like this would never last and we would have our old WWF back by the end of the week. Well ten years later, I’m actually quite used to WWE, even more so that WWF at this point. I still meet the occasional person who says WWF. These are usually people who never watch the product, but to be fair, Vince McMahon himself slipped up live on Raw last year and said F instead of E.
I’ve watched the Revolution video, and while there’s nothing really in it to suggest what the whole thing is about, it’s worth noting that we’re getting close to the time where something kicks off a giant summer long story the way Punk did last year and the NXT invasion did the year before that. Internet speculation wants the video to have something to do with Dean Ambrose making his debut, but nothing in the video hints to that. Then again, I’m still waiting to see what creepy kids have to do with Jericho’s return.
I hate to say it but the face version of crazy R-Truth just doesn’t work as well as the heel version. I tried to give it a fair chance and there have been occasional moments of greatness (he made that Elimination Chamber debate better than it had any right to be) but it just doesn’t work as well with Truth and Little Jimmy being friends. I’d wish for something to happen that causes Truth to turn heel again just to try and recapture that magic, but that would create just the latest example of a tag team falling apart on poor Kofi.
You know what I would like? Something for crowds to chant when they don’t like a character. I’m not talking about booing. I’m happy to boo The Miz. We’re supposed to boo The Miz, and by booing him, I can convey that he’s doing a good job in his role of a heel and is indeed entertaining me. I want a noise to make when Tensai comes out so that I can convey my displeasure of the character and the fact that creative has put this character on the show. My only suggestion would to have no audible reaction from the audience so it can’t be misconstrued as getting heat. But that’s the reaction the audience had to the Diva’s match last time I was at a live show and we still have one of those every week.
I’ve actually stated this already in a previous article but I feel strongly enough about it to include it in this series of unrelated thoughts as well. If John Cena and John Laurinaitis are the main event of Over the Limit instead of CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, I am going to lose it!
