Tom Cruise To Ride With The Magnificent Seven? Mission Impossible Star Eyeing Remake

News, Projects, Top Story

Variety is reporting that Tom Cruise is now attached to a new and interesting project: a remake of The Magnificent Seven. MGM is eyeing to put the film into production, though no writer and director (and no cast outside of Cruise) have been named yet. This won’t be any time in the near future for the star, though, as he’s currently working on Oblivion and will jump into All You Need Is Kill after. He’s also attached to a reboot of Van Helsing as well as a biopic spin off of his Les Grossman character.

What does this mean? MGM is emptying the vault in terms of remakes, with both Carrie and Robocop targeted for remakes this year alone, so it’s not all that shocking that The Magnificent Seven would be targeted for it as well. It’s a remake as well, of course, of Seven Samurai and as such it’s not surprising they’d want to attach a star like Cruise and assemble a cast around him.

What do you think? Good or bad idea … and who do you think they ought to cast alongside him? Let us know below.
