John Carter Tops DVD & Blu-Ray Sales! Warrior of Mars Makes Home Video Comeback for Disney?

Box Office, News

John Carter, the movie adaptaion of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic Princess of Mars, is making a comeback on the small screen by topping DVD and Blu-Ray sales according to the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart and Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.

While the movie was Walt Disney Company’s biggest disappointment in the studio’s history this year, it may get a second life afterall. With a budget of $250 million, the movie made over $282 million as of mid-June 2012 in world-wide movie theatre sales according to Box Office Mojo.

Neilsen’s charts do not list the actual sales of the DVD and Blu-Ray sales, but it does signal the potential for profitability. The question is how enduring sales of the discs will be.

Time will tell.

A sequel to John Carter on the silver screen remains an elusive dream. Something spectacular will need to continue on disc sales for that to change.

Will the faith and word of mouth of John Carter’s fandom lead to a stunning second life for John Carter?
