First Trailer For Thriller Alex Cross With A Madea-Less Tyler Perry

Media, Trailers

Amazon.com nabbed the exclusive trailer to the upcoming release of Alex Cross starring Tyler Perry. Directed by Rob Cohen, of the original The Fast and the Furious, the story is adapted from the James Patterson best-seller Cross. Patterson has a whole series of novels about the Washington D.C.-based detective. Two of his earlier novels, Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, were made into feature films starring Morgan Freeman in the Alex Cross role.

This cat-and-mouse thriller pits Cross against The Butcher, a mob hit man played by Lost‘s Matthew Fox. The cast also includes Rachel Nichols, Edward Burns, Jean Reno and John C. McGinley. Considering that Patterson’s twelfth Alex Cross novel serves as a flashback to events involving the two characters, this could be a fresh way to reboot the series.

Perry, who showed with Good Deeds that he’s making strides as an actor, still seems a little out of place playing such a character (I still picture Idris Elba in the role), but Fox looks like a worthwhile adversary.

Check out the trailer below.

After Washington DC detective Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) is told that his wife has been murdered, he vows to track down the killer (Matthew Fox). He soon discovers that she was not his first victim and that things are not what they seem. Alex Cross is directed by Rob Cohen and written by Marc Moss (Along Came a Spider) and Kerry Williamson.

Alex Cross is scheduled to open in theaters on October 26th.
