SDCC 2012 Tidbits: Amazing Spider-Man Status in Avengers 2 Movie Confirmed

News

Sony owns the rights to adapting Spider-Man to film while Marvel is now producing its own movies with the Avengers related movies in recent year’s as examples of that. X-Men is also out of Marvel’s hands as 20th Century Fox has the film rights to that franchise.

Fans have been clamoring for some kind of Spider-Man or X-Men cross-over of appearances in Avengers 2 or upcoming Marvel movies, but it is not looking good.

On Thursday’s opening day of the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC), Marvel Comics held their (Digital) House of Ideas panel which included this exchange:

Any chance of a Spider-Man/Avengers movie crossover? Because of the rights issue, [Marvel Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Joe] Quesada says “he would really doubt it.”

While not a huge surprise, it is sad that the studios can’t all work together to give fans what they want: more interaction among their Marvel movie superhero faves.
