To close the landmark 1,000th episode of Monday Night Raw, CM Punk retained the WWE Championship after the Big Show interfered in the match to attack John Cena while Punk was locked in the STFU. After the match, The Rock came out to combat Big Show, but after taking Show down Punk then re-emerged to attach The Rock as Rocky was in the middle of attempting a People’s Elbow on Show. Punk then nailed The Rock with an emphatic GTS before slowly leaving the ring with his WWE Championship in hand. The crowd booed Punk heavily after this segment, and Jerry Lawler even said “Punk turned his back on the WWE Universe” before Raw faded to black, signifying — or at least heavily speculating — a heel turn for the current WWE Champion.
