DreamWorks Animation Announces 2013-2016 Slate

News, Projects

A few weeks ago, DreamWorks Animation inked deal that would see its films distributed under the banner of 20th Century Fox. And the animation studio is wasting little time in slotting upcoming projects for the years 2013 through 2016.

Deadline acknowledged the studio’s release schedule, a schedule that will see not one but two sequels to How to Train Your Dragon as well as a Madagascar spin-off featuring the penguins, and a third installment to the very lucrative Kung Fu Panda franchise. DreamWorks Animation is also prepping eight original properties.

Cinemablend reveals plot and story synopses of the not-yet-established franchises forthcoming.

In spring 2013 The Croods is a comedy about a cavemen family forced into the dangerous prehistoric world in search of a new home. (So it’s like Ice Age but with human characters.) Later that year is Turbo, which centers on a snail with aspirations on winning the Indy 500. (Cars meets A Bug’s Life?) Fall 2013 sees the release of the Mr. Peabody & Sherman movie, adapted from the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon short, and Me & My Shadow follows in spring 2014 unraveling the story of a man whose shadow demands adventure!

Thanksgiving 2014 offers Happy Smekday!, based on Adam Rex’s novel The True Meaning of Smekday. 2015 boasts an impressive four titles including Trolls, inspired by that infamous miniature doll that was so popular in the ’90s, and B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, written by Tom Wheeler, of Puss in Boots fame.

Christmas 2015 offers probably the most impressive-sounding (at least music-wise) offering with Mubai Musical (working title), a tale of monkeys in the style of a Bollywood musical with a music from A.R. Rahman, Academy Award-winning composer of Slumdog Millionaire. A complete list of DWA release dates is included below:
