Notes on CM Punk, Paul Heyman, Brock Lesnar, Triple H, John Cena, The Rock and WrestleMania 29

News

According to the Sept. 10 Wrestling Observer Newsletter, CM Punk is “very happy” with his heel turn because while John Cena will always be marketed as WWE’s top face, the slot for top heel is currently wide open for Punk to claim. The Observer reports that with Lesnar on a limited-dates contract and WWE not wanting to turn Randy Orton until Sheamus can prove he can carry SmackDown as the top face, the #1 heel slot is ripe for the picking for Punk. The report also indicates that while guys like Big Show, The Miz and Alberto Del Rio serve a purpose, they just aren’t what WWE wants for that top heel slot at the moment.

As for WrestleMania 29, the current plan for WWE is to have Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H co-headline the event along with either The Rock vs. John Cena II or two separate matches for The Rock and Cena that are yet to be determined. Of course, one figures that The Undertaker and THE STREAK will figure into this mix as well as one of the top four attractions of the show.

Lastly, Paul Heyman is now under a regular contract with WWE for Monday Night Raw / PPV appearances since he is now aligned with WWE Champion CM Punk. Heyman will also re-align with Brock Lesnar once the WrestleMania build heats up.

CB’s Slant: I really don’t think a Lesnar vs. Triple H rematch works on any level for WrestleMania, especially since WWE could literally print money and sell every ticket if they booked Taker vs. Brock as the main event. Therefore, I hope WWE’s current rumored plans outlined by The Observer change drastically come WrestleMania 29.
