Let me just say that I am proud of WWE for how they handled Jerry Lawler’s unfortunate emergency Monday night. I know I’ve given Lawler a lot of grief and trust me, I still feel the same way as before but as a human, I wish him the best and a speedy recovery from this heart attack. But as the WWE showed last night, the show must go on so lets get ready for some Night of Champions.
Battle Royal to Determine #1 Contender for US Title
I literally just learned about this now and I don’t really have many thoughts about it seeing as how the contenders haven’t been announced. My only wish is that Tyson Kidd is involved and wins, what happens beyond that is irrelevant to me.
Divas Championship Match: Layla(c) vs Kaitlyn
It seems obvious that the Divas division is in a shuffled state right now and whether it be because they were highly invested in the return of Kharma or just completely out of ideas beyond AJ. I heard the rumors that the ending of the Diva battle royal was botched and Eve was suppose to win and it’s obvious they have some sort of plan for her. I wouldn’t be surprised if Eve interrupted in some fashion causing Layla to win and a new Divas rivalry.
WWE Tag Team Championship: Kofi Kingston & R-Truth(c) vs Kane vs Daniel Bryan
File this under things that were thrown together at the last minute. That being the case, I know this is just to have a reason for the Kane and Daniel Bryan thing continue and I am all for it. Lets be honest, Truth and Kofi aren’t getting much done as champs, it’s getting stale and I think Bryan and Kane holding the belts whilst continuing to deal with their issues is completely golden.
Randy Orton vs Dolph Ziggler
I know Randy is going to go off and shoot a movie soon and this gives Ziggles something to do while still holding the briefcase. So this is a placeholder rivalry and I’m okay with it given the circumstances where both men are in a weird storyline limbo. That being said, I’m gonna assume Super-Orton abilities will be engaged or Ziggler will find a way to run.
World Heavyweight Championship: Sheamus(c) vs Alberto Del Rio
I. Don’t. Care. About. This.
Really, this rivalry ruined both men for me and I just can’t deal with this anymore. How am I suppose to be invested in a rivalry that’s been completely one sided the entire time. Del Rio has not really had the upper hand at any point and made me not care about him and this whole issue over the Brogue kick isn’t exactly helping. Don’t get me wrong, the prerecorded deposition on Raw worked wonders for me but it doesn’t save the crap that’s been shoveled our way for the past months. Sheamus wins and we’ll get more of it because of this Brogue crap, Happy Birthday to no one.
WWE Championship Match: CM Punk(c) vs John Cena
I’m very grateful that this feud has actually been picking up lately. The whole thing between Punk and Lawler was strange and did very little to cause heat between he and Cena. But the closing promo this past Raw, once we tried to get over the unfortunate events concerning Lawler, was really brilliant and actually made me impressed with Cena on mic for once (which I’ve only felt the Raw before Mania 28). As far as how I believe this will play out, I am really hopeful that Punk pulls this off. I’m not just saying that as a Punk fan, I’m saying that because I would like Rock’s title match at Rumble to be huge. What would be bigger? Rock going against Cena again or Rock going against a champion that hasn’t been taken down by anybody in over a year? Then Rock can have the title at Mania and Cena and try his luck against Rock at that point. Hell, lets go nuts and make it a triple threat and throw Punk in too. But that being said, I have a feeling Punk and Cena is gonna be a longer deal and this is only the beginning, especially the beginning for new heel Punk. Punk finds a way to get away with the title, gets a huge heel pop at Boston and we are cooking.
