WWE officially announced this afternoon that Barbara Jean Blank, a.k.a. Kelly Kelly, has been released from the company. She had been working a limited schedule since August.
Here is their full statement:
“WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Diva Kelly Kelly as of today, September 28, 2012. WWE wishes Kelly Kelly the best in all her future endeavors.”
Kelly debuted with the company for the ECW brand in June of 2006 as an exhibitionist. She won the WWE Divas Championship for the first time last June and held the title until October, losing to Beth Phoenix.
Kelly took a brief hiatus from the company earlier this year from late May through early August and has only made one TV appearance during that time. Shortly after WWE released their statement, Kelly (real name Barbara Blank) had this to say on Twitter:
“Had an amazing six years with WWE, made great friends and have the most loyal and amazing fans in the world,” Kelly wrote. “Thanks for the never ending support. Have exciting things in the works. Can’t wait to share them with you. Stay tuned.”
