Revenge – Episode 2-2 Review – “Victory, Victoria”

Reviews, Top Story

Well well well, things sure happen fast on Revenge, don’t they? Last night’s episode was all about stolen inheritances, tricked investors, fake paternity test results, Emily’s mysterious mother and, of course, the return of Victoria Grayson.

When the episode began, Emily was having bad dreams after staying up all night to spy on Victoria via the Clam Cam. Nolan warned Emily that letting her guard down would only make it easier for “White Haired Mannibal Lector” to come kill her – but Emily wasn’t worried about that. That bit of foreshadowing was important, though – Emily is letting things get away from her as she falls deeper and deeper into her schemes.

The best thing that this show has done this season is put Ashley in cahoots with Conrad. Daniel is best when he’s being obliviously manipulated (and fighting against that) and giving Ashley something to do has made her a much more delicious character. I liked Daniel a lot this week. I still don’t think he can be trusted, but it was nice to see him stand up to the old man and have his little sister’s back.

Victoria’s master plan for her and Charlotte to flee the country was foiled (thank god, as if this show would be any good with Queen V overseas) thanks to Charlotte’s lost inheritance. The White Haired Man (WHM) wouldn’t provide her new passport until he got paid, which she couldn’t do. The result was brilliant. Victoria had Conrad stage her abduction, which they framed WHM for.

Of course, Emily had evidence that could clear the WHM’s name thanks to the Clam Cam, and he came looking for it. And that’s when the foreshadowing paid off. Emily was not on her A-Game at all. She was willing to trade away the footage for information on her mother, but she was totally distracted. Before she knew what hit her, WHM had a knife to her throat. She would have been a goner, but Aiden stepped in a saved her. No more White Haired Man, he’s been shot and killed. That’s probably for the best, I think we’d exhausted his character. Now I want to learn more about this Aiden guy.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Sigh. Fake Amanda’s baby really IS Jack’s? Ugh. This is not OK!
  • Emily’s plan to use Charlotte against Victoria would have been good had Victoria not one-upped Emily with the fake abduction. Now that Charlotte knows she’s going to be an aunt, having Amanda around will be a lot more fun.
  • Are we all completely uninterested in this Trey kid that’s probably messing with Declan? It’s not like anyone has ever said “Declan is my favorite character on Revenge.”
  • What do we think of Nolan’s new CFO Padma Lahari? Very pretty, but not to be trusted, I think.
  • I love how we’re still not sure what to think of Emily’s mom. She was mentally ill, but we don’t know why or what she was like otherwise. I think there’s more to that story.
