Avengers Spoilers: A Long Lost Avenger Phones Home?

Spoilers

With Avengers Vs. X-Men in the books, and Bendis beginning his final arc on Avengers, it’s the perfect time to wrap up some long lingering plots. Like Wonder Man and his psychotic episode from earlier in the series, I personally expected it to be left lingering for a future writer to get back to, but Bendis had the wayward Avenger return to talk to Cap.

And to ask for forgiveness? Simon accepts he probably had a nervous breakdown that played havoc with his ionic powerset. Cap even tells him that ‘once an Avenger always an Avenger’ and offers him the get out of jail free pass that he gave to Wanda. For those that missed it, the last time we saw Wonder Man he led a team called the Revengers to blow up Avengers Mansion and take out the New Avengers, and then they attacked Avengers tower and the Avengers that were still standing. Full on taking the fight to Cap bad guy. But he’s a former Avenger, so Cap offers him amnesty.

Rulk denies it. Simon will return.

That’s not who this post is about.

Throughout the issue we see this woman in a strange land, seemingly the only humanoid, and looking for someone capable of broadcasting a signal for her. With an Avengers Security Card.

The issue ends with Tony Stark getting the homing beacon from inner space, the emergency signal from a lost Avenger.

Bendis doesn’t say it in the issue, but as someone who has been following along for the last half dozen years….it looks like he’s going to bring back Janet Van Dyne before he leaves. Something I am quite thankful for given the manner in which she was ‘killed’ in the first place. Stupid Secret Invasion.

Get ready for the return of The Wasp!

And for those of you who read Avengers Academy, take some pride in Hank Pym! He was on the right track when he thought he found her in Underspace, he just didn’t get around to proving Inner Space!
