With the theatrical trailer being teased already, Marvel Studios has gone ahead and debuted the first full trailer for Iron Man 3, which will kick off Summer 2013 when it hits theaters on May 3, 2013.
Judging from the two-minute trailer the stakes have been raised for Tony Stark. Picking up with the aftermath of the climatic New York City battle in Marvel’s The Avengers, Stark is suffering from a form of PTSD, where he appears agitated and cannot sleep soundly. Along with Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle are back for this third installment in profitable series. Newcomers include Ben Kingsley as the villainous “Mandarin” and Guy Pearce.
Shane Black, famous for popularizing the buddy-cop genre in the ’80s with Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout, and who also helped bring Downey back to leading man prominence with his directorial debut Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, takes over for Jon Favreau who helmed the first and second Iron Man films. Black also wrote the screenplay with Drew Pearce.
This time around Tony Stark is pitted against his strongest enemy, an enemy who will destroy Stark’s empire by any means necessary. In the aftermath, Stark embarks on a journey of self discovery where he will discover the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: “Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”
