The Houston Film Critics Society Presents A Hitchcock-Fest

News, Top Story

With less than a week remaining, it’s time I do my due diligence as a member of the Houston Film Critics Society and plug an event I will be participating in on Saturday, November 17th. Thanks to the fine folks with Fox Searchlight and the Alamo Drafthouse establishment on Mason Road in Katy, Texas, the HFCS will be presenting a day with Alfred Hitchcock. And you thought Texans only knew about chainsaws. Turns out that Texans are well-versed in horror and like a little “hitch” in their, um, well you know.

In 1960, Alfred Hitchcock forever changed the landscape of horror with his seminal film PSYCHO. In 2012, director Sacha Gervasi presents a love story about Alfred Hitchcock and his wife and partner Alma Reville with the new release from Fox Searchlight Pictures, HITCHCOCK. Starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johansson, HITCHCOCK is already garnering awards buzz. The HFCS invites audiences to take a sneak peak of the film at a special advance screening.

To further spice things up, this special screening of HITCHCOCK will be part of a full-day celebration of the legendary director. The event kicks off at 2pm with a special screening of REAR WINDOW, followed by PSYCHO. An advance screening of HITCHCOCK follows immediately afterwards.

The best part – this event is absolutely free! Seating is first come, first served so show up early for a great seat and a full day celebrating the master of suspense. Want to reserve your place in the theater? Buy a $5 food and beverage voucher and you’ll be guaranteed a seat in the theater and you can use this voucher towards anything off our menu during the event. If you buy a voucher, you must still show up to the theater early to grab the best seat possible.

Further details about the event can be found here.

Six hours with the master of suspense and a sneak peek at a film that doesn’t come out until November 23rd in select markets, what’s not to like? Those within driving distance that have never experienced Hitchcock on the big screen need to come out to this event.

Need a little push? Okay, how about this. The Houston critics group will be giving away one copy of the limited edition Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection on Blu-ray. The only catch is that you have to make a charitable contribution to the critics society. A $19 donation will get you a T-shirt with a slogan that Alamo Drafthouse CEO Tim League would proudly wear and automatic entry into the raffle.
