NBC affiliate WSLS posted a story providing some more details about WWE’s upcoming Tribute to the Troops event. The article states:
“Governor McDonnell announced today that WWE will bring its 10th annual holiday salute to the United States Armed Forces, WWE Tribute to the Troops presented by Slim Jim, to Virginia this December. The 10th anniversary holiday extravaganza will air as a two-hour television special on Wednesday, December 19 at 9/8C on USA Network and as a one-hour television special on Saturday, December 22 at 9/8C on NBC.”
“We are excited to host WWE Tribute to the Troops in the Norfolk and Hampton Roads area,” said Governor Bob McDonnell. “Virginia has long been committed to supporting our troops and this is another opportunity to thank them for their service. We are home to 125,000 active duty members and 830,000 veterans. Naval Station Norfolk is the crown jewel of the United States Navy and home to so many brave men and women and their families who tirelessly serve our country. It’s great that the WWE has chosen to highlight Virginia and our exceptional military personnel for this holiday tradition.
This year, WWE Superstars will travel to Naval Station Norfolk, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek/Fort Story and Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, and the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va. to entertain the nearly 200,000 sailors, family members, and civilians that make up the world’s largest navalstation and Navy fleet concentration area.”
Among the slated special guests for this year’s show are Kid Rock, Flo Rida, the Muppets, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, Access Hollywood and NBC Sports’ Michelle Beadle and more.
Meanwhile, WWE will travel overseas as well: “WWE Tribute to the Troops will also chronicle WWE’s goodwill visit to our troops overseas. WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, along with WWE Superstars The Miz®, R-Truth, Eve and Layla, will travel overseas to spread some much needed holiday cheer to the men and women serving our country far from home during the holiday season.”
