UFC 154: Georges St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit Live Results and Play by Play

Tonight, live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Ultimate Fighting Championship presents UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit. The main event of the evening will feature the return of Georges St-Pierre, coming off a 19 month layoff, to face Carlos Condit for the UFC Welterweight title. Will GSP be able to retain his title or will the interim champion (Condit) unify the belts and stake his claim as the best 170 lb. fight in the world?

UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit PPV Main Card
Georges St-Pierre (UFC Welterweight Champion) vs. Carlos Condit (UFC Interim Welterweight Champion)

Round 1 – The Bell Centre goes nuts for GSP as his music starts. Through intros, GSP holds a serious advantage with the crowd, which is to be expected. Solid movement from Condit to start. GSP lands a body punch. Front kick to the knee from Condit. Georges and Carlos both swing wild but it looks as if St-Pierre landed in the exchange. Two punch combination from Condit. Right hand misses from GSP. St-Pierre shoots for a takedown and gets it. Condit searches for an arm bar. GSP gets to half guard and he’s raining some blows. As GSP works for the can opener, Condit works for an armbar once again. Long strikes from both fighters as Condit cannot get the submission that he’s working off his back for. Short elbow lands from GSP and the forehead of Condit is opened up. 10-9 GSP

Round 2 – Leg kick from Condit misses. Punch-punch-kick misses from Condit. Jab from GSP. Big right hand from GSP finds Condit’s face. Right hand from Condit. Head kick from GSP misses. Stiff jab from GSP. Knee to the body and a punch to GSP. Big right from GSP. Both fighters step in for strikes that miss. Spinning backfist from Condit finds nothing but air. GSP shoots in and takes Condit down into half guard. He’s just hammering on Condit’s cut. Both fighters strike at will. Condit rains long elbows onto the head of GSP, who maintains control. Condit is back to his feet and the two fighters are going at it to end the round. 10-9 GSP

Round 3 – Inside leg kick from GSP. Spinning wheel kick misses from Condit. Two punch combo, a kick and another punch put GSP onto his backside. GSP eats a ton of damage on his back. GSP continues to take big elbows to the face – there’s a mess of swelling over the eyes that he created from the elbows. GSP gets back to his feet. GSP shoots in for another takedown and gets it. GSP looks to be attacking in an effort to clear his senses. He was clearly wobbly for a bit. Condit gets back to his feet, only to be dragged to his back again. Georges St-Pierre steps into Condit’s half guard. Very tough round to score, but there was more damage from Condit so we’ll got that way. 10-9 Condit

Round 4 – Leg kick, head kick from Condit. There’s a huge target on GSP’s face now. Another head kick lands from Condit and GSP counters with one of his own. GSP gets a takedown into side control, but quickly works his way to full guard. Big shots from both fighters – GSP is taking it to Condit. Condit has the triangle attempt, but GSP is able to power out because both men are slippery. It’s blood, people. Carlos Condit is back on his feet. As GSP tries to get him to the mat, Condit gets on top. GSP quickly sweeps free and ends up back on top. GSP’s grappling is ruling the day…once again. The buzzer sounds with GSP in control. 10-9 GSP

Round 5 – Right hand connects from Condit. Counter from GSP is a leg kick. Leg kick from GSP and Condit throws some kick combos of his own. Big spinning back kick to the body by Carlos Condit. GSP shoots for a takedown, but Condit fights his way free and back to his feet. Condit comes right down the pipe with strikes. Head kick from Condit is blocked, but he follows it with a combo that sees a left hook find a home. Jab from GSP. Takedown from GSP with two and a half minutes to go in the fight. St-Pierre is working for mount. Condit gives up his back to get free, but it doesn’t work. GSP is able to stop Condit from rolling through and takes top position. The fight ends with GSP raining heavy strikes as Condit slams GSP in the head with elbows. 10-9 GSP and 49-46 for Georges St-Pierre

Winner and STILL UFC Welterweight Champion: Georges St-Pierre by unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45)


Martin Kampmann vs. Johny Hendricks
Round 1 – Head kick from Kampmann is blocked. Hendricks is already searching for the big hook. As both fighters get set, Hendricks uncorks a HUGE left after he feinted a right hand and taps Kampmann’s chin on the mat as Dan Miragliotta stops the bout.

Winner: Johny Hendricks by knockout (R1, punch, 0:46)


Francis Carmont vs. Tom Lawlor
Round 1 – Touch of gloves by both fighters. Lawlor gets Carmont against the cage and the two grapple for supremacy. Dirty boxing in the clinch from Lawlor. Two body kicks from Carmont. Lawlor winces. Overhand right from Lawlor leads to a takedown attempt. Carmont goes for a standing kimura, but the two separate. Left hand from Lawlor as the two fighters separate. Body kick from Carmont. Lawlor gets a tight guillotine, but Carmont is able to get out as the bell sounds. 10-9 Lawlor

Round 2 – Kick to open from Carmont. Lawlor eats a big knee to the body. Left hand down the pipe from Lawlor. Three punch combo on the break from Carmont. Right hand counter from Lawlor. Left hook by Carmont in the clinch, but Lawlor finally gets a takedown. Carmont gets back to his feet, but eats two knees to the head for his troubles. Another takedown from Lawlor. Lawlor takes side control and grabs a guillotine. Again, the buzzer sounds with Lawlor letting Carmont out of the choke. 10-9 Lawlor.

Round 3 – Right hand finds a home for Lawlor. Both fighters are pressed against the cage as Lawlor works for a takedown once again. Right hook from Carmont and an inside leg kick. Lawlor gets Carmont to the cage again and scores with knees to the thighs. Right hook connects from Lawlor. Front kick from Carmont finds a home. Foot stomps from Tom Lawlor, but Francis Carmont gets a takedown as the buzzer sounds. 10-9 Carmont and 29-28 for Tom Lawlor.

Winner: Francis Carmont by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)


Lightweight Bout
Mark Bocek (11-4) vs. Rafael dos Anjos (17-6)

Round 1– Dos Anjos hits a crsip uppercut to start. Bocek backs him up against the cage, they break. Dos Anjos throws a kick. Leg kick for dos Anjos. Body kick lands for him as well. Bocek ties him up against the cage and throws a few knees. Dos Anjos tries to break the hold by aiming his elbows at the head of Bocek. Big knee for dos Anjos. Dos Anjos whiffs on a leg kick. Another killer uppercut for dos Anjos. Front kick for dos Anjos. Knee from the clinch for Bocek. Bocek goes for another takedown but it is stuffed. Kick from dos Anjos is blocked. Another takedown attempt for Bocek is blocked. Bocek has him up against the cage and the two combatants exchange insignificant blows. Leg kick for dos Anjos. That is the end of a very close round. We will go 10-9 dos Anjos.

Round 2– Bocek lands a kick square on the cup of dos Anjos. The action is halted for a few minutes. They wrestle their way to the mat quickly. Dos Anjos gains control and starts looking for a submission. Bocek is holding on to the hips of dos Anjos. Bocek is bloodied up now. They work their way to their feet and break. They come together and exchange punches. Leg kick for Bocek. Dos Anjos stuffs another takedown and throws a combo of punches. Then he gets a takedown and begins to work towards taking Bocek’s back. Dos Anjos begins to pound away and Bocek seemingly has no answer for him. Dos Anjos keeps working for the back. Bocek stands up but gets slammed by dos Anjos. Short elbow from dos Anjos. 10-9 dos Anjos.

Round 3– Bocek comes out punching, knowing he needs a finish here in the third round. Front kick from dos Anjos does not land. Dos Anjos wraps him up and goes for the takedown but Bocek reverses it and gains control. Bocek starts looking for a takedown of his own. Dos Anjos ends up on top. They stand up and Bocek grabs for a kimura but he is way out of position. They break and dos Anjos goes back to relying on his kicks. Flying knee for dos Anjos that may have partially gotten through. Jab for Bocek connects. Bocek goes for a takedown but dos Anjos squirms away. Bocek gets him up against the cage and begins to grind him. Dos Anjos pounds away on his head to defend against the single leg. Referee Yves Lavigne breaks them up. Bocek continues to look for the takedown even though there are only 30 seconds left. Dos Anjos lands one more uppercut for good meansure right before the final bell sounds. We’ll say 10-9 dos Anjos though this round too was close. Clearly the fight belonged to him though and that is reflected in our 30-27 scorecard in his favor.

Mark Hominick vs. Pablo Garza

Round 2-Garza charges out and throws a wild spinning back kick that comes nowhere close. Garza goes for the takedown, they grabble and eventually Garza ends up on top in Hominick’s guard. Garza slides an elbow through that lands. The action stalls as Hominick tries to slow things down. Garza is landing a few shots to the body but nothing of note. Hominick looks for some sort of armbar but nothing doing. Garza powers through some more elbows, Hominick’s blood splatters across the mat. Garza postures up and begins to pound Hominick with punches. Hominick now has a cut under both of his eyes. Garza contimues to dominate this round. Hominick is almost able to escape but cannot. Garza goes back into his guard and the beatdown carries on. Garza stays on top and has all sorts of success with side elbows to the face. The round ends. 10-8 Garza.

Round 3– Head kick from Garza to start. Hominick goes forward with some boxing which is probably where he wants to keep the fight. He backs Garza up with a sharp combo. Garza bull rushes him and scores a takedown and we are right back to where we were in the last round. Hominick is kind of obsessed with the omaplanta right now and Garza takes advantage by landing more shots. Hominick needs this fight badly and can’t manage to take control. Garza is putting on a clinic as far as staying on top and landing ground and pound is concerned. The action is fairly slow here in the final frame. Hominick gets to his feet with a minute left, goes for the omaplanta and Garza smothers here. Garza is in the half guard and even though Rogan is imploring him to go for the sweep Hominick can’t do it. Garza keeps throwing punches. Hominick has one last submission attempt but the round and the fight comes to an end. 10-9 Garza giving him a 29-27 victory on our scorecard.
