The Stomping Ground: A Word of Thanks…giving (CM Punk, Paul Heyman, Wrestlemania)

Columns, Top Story

What an awesome weekend I just had! My family threw me a huge surprise 30th birthday bash last Saturday and I can definitely tell you that a great time was had by all. It was a much-needed respite from the shit I’ve been dealing with at home, at work, and in the world of professional wrestling. On that note, here are a few things about the business that I’m thankful for, despite the crap we’ve been dealt lately.

1. CM Punk’s historic title run, which is nearly guaranteed at this point (barring a surprise title change) to surpass John Cena’s and forever cement his legacy as the longest-reigning WWE Champion of the modern era.

2. Paul Heyman channeling Jackie Gleason’s facial expressions and mannerisms. “BALLOONS?! NO BALLOONS?!”

3. Daniel Bryan getting over despite his lack of size.

4. John Cena’s out of the title picture (for now).

5. Promising young talent ready for a push to the big time.

6. My upcoming visit to Wrestlemania XXIX.

7. Working with the ever-patient Kelly Floyd on Smackdown. That girl’s a saint, I tells ya!

8. Pulse Glazer, for being a great friend and giving me the opportunity to write for Inside Pulse.

9. My fellow writers and commenters: without you guys, there’d be no reason to soldier on.

10. Getting to see Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania XXV live and in-person.

That’ll do it for me. My fellow Americans: enjoy Thanksgiving today. Everyone else: enjoy your meaningless, typical Thursday!

So long, and thanks for all the fish.
