DVD Review: Go Snoopy Go!

DVD Reviews, Reviews

The world series might be over, but there’s no reason you can’t get ready for Spring Training now with this latest Peanuts release, Go Snoopy Go!.

It’s Spring Training, Charlie Brown is the 35th prime-time animated TV special of the Peanuts game. I was supposed to air on TV in 1992, but sat unseen until released on VHS in 1996, and now it’s finally on DVD. It’s a pretty simply story. Charlie Brown and the gang need to win the first game of the season in order for them to get official team uniforms. Before the game, the token black kid busts out a hip hop tune about baseball. Thanks early 90’s! Good Grief!

Also on this disc you get an episode of The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show which aired in 1983. The DVD menu lists it as episode 13 however a quick search of imdb.com will tell you that it is actually episode 12, so who knows. Also, the episode has a couple baseball centric sketches so it even ties into the theme of the main short, hence its inclusion.

These are both pretty funny episodes. Neither are what one might conciser “classics” but they are sure to put a smile on your face.

The episodes are presented in a 1.33:1 full screen format and Dolby Digital Mono sound. These have been remastered quite nicely and look really good.

It’s a short DVD, but if you’re a Peanuts completest you’re surely going to want this one. Spring Training isn’t one of the greatest Peanuts stories, but it’s still fun.
