News, Top Story

So far it looks like women’s MMA is going to make quite a splash in the UFC as the first women to fight in THE Octagon will be Ronda Rousey and Cris “Cyborg” Santos. It’s a rumor so far but this is what we know:

UFC Brazil’s website briefly listed Cyborg vs. Rousey as headlining the PPV:

MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani tweeted this a smidge later: UFC Brazil site briefly had a story stating Rousey-Cyborg @ 157, but DW just told me that isn’t official story is now gone

So far the card has Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida and Urijah Faber vs. Ivan Menjivar. MMA Junkie spoke with Santos in regards to it as well From them:

Santos on Wednesday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that a notice on the UFC’s Portguese-language website announcing a fight between the women at UFC 157 is the “wrong information.”

She did, however, say that negotiations for the fight are underway, and said that she could fight at 135 pounds.

“In one month, I can’t do it, but if I have time, I could do it,” said Santos, who added that her management is currently negotiating with the UFC.

As of right now it looks like WMMA will start off with a bang in the UFC with the biggest fight in the division’s history; it’s just a matter of Cyborg negotiating her way in and making the weight. We’ll have more on this story as it breaks.
