This past September The Place Beyond the Pines played for audiences and potential buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film was met with a strong amount of buzz and Universal’s independent brand, Focus Features, was the highest bidder. The studio recently released the first official trailer for Derek Cianfrance’s crime drama, starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, and Ray Liotta. Those expecting a “Drive Redux” might be surprised after viewing the trailer.
Focus Features is set to open the film in theaters on March 29th.
Official synopsis: Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies in order to support his newborn son. When he crosses paths with Avery (Cooper), a rookie police officer, a violent confrontation changes both their lives. Years later, their two sons unknowingly collide with one another, thrusting them into a tense inter-generational feud. The Place Beyond the Pines is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villains.
