The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey From Novel To Film For Pale Orc Azog The Defiler (Spoilerish)

News

Following earlier glimpses of Azog, the main antagonist in the first of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit film trilogy titled An Unexpected Journey, comes more images of the big bad himself.

Spoilers for the film and novel follow in this news article. You have been warned.

It is interesting that in the Hobbit novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, Azog was beheaded during the same battle where he slew the Dwarf King father of Thorin the Dwarf Prince. In fact, Azog is only mentioned once in the novel by Gandalf when referring to the battle.

In the movie that battle is shown and Thorin believes Azog died only to return later in the movie having been behanded ;) with a metal claw in its place. The Hobbit film ends with Azog still very much alive and able to play the foil in the second of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy.
