An injury has forced welterweight Sean Pierson (13-6) out of next month’s UFC 158 event. He was set to fight Rick Story (14-6), but Story will now meet Strikeforce import Quinn Mulhern (18-2) in action on the night’s preliminary card. UFC officials announced the change via Twitter on Tuesday.
Story looks to get back into the win column against Mulhern. After racking up six straight wins, Story is just 1-3 in his last four bouts with his last performance inside the octagon being a submission loss to Demian Maia at UFC 153 in October. Story does hold wins over Thiago Alves and Johny Hendricks, the only defeat in the career of Hendricks.
Mulhern comes into the UFC having won ten of his last eleven fights and has racked up three consecutive wins in the now-extinct Strikeforce promotion. His contract was picked up and he was moved over to the UFC following the closure of Strikeforce.
UFC 158 takes place on March 16 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is headlined by a UFC Welterweight Championship bout as Georges St. Pierre defends against Nick Diaz in a much-anticipated contest.
