The Rock posted the following today on his Twitter & Facebook pages:
“New title. New era. New standard.
WWE Heavyweight Champion.
#JustBringIt”
Quick Quip: I lean toward liking the new belt than disliking it and unlike many people who have been commenting, I don’t mind the absence of a nameplate. WWF/WWE championships NEVER had nameplates until the former WCW/World Heavyweight Championship was introduced in 2002. Since then, it’s become the norm for one to see the current champion’s name on the title belt. That’s perfectly fine but not necessary. This design, while better than the spinner, leaves much to be desired as it is a VERY modern design and not akin to the classic/traditional designs we all know and love. Plus, the shape is practically the same as the United States Championship which I was never very fond of.
