Ricardo Lamas vs. Chan Sung Jung set for UFC 162

A bout between featherweight contenders that could determine who gets the next title shot at the UFC Featherweight Championship has been added to the annual 4th of July Weekend UFC event in Las Vegas. Ricardo Lamas (13-2, 4-0 UFC) will meet “The Korean Zombie”, Chan Sung Jung (13-3, 3-0 UFC), UFC officials announced on Wednesday night.

The fight will be much anticipated and has been long-rumored since Lamas picked up an impressive win over Erik Koch at UFC On FOX 6 in January. Lamas has won four straight since dropping down to 145 pounds following the UFC/WEC megrer. He scored a win over Matt Grice in his featherweight debut in June 2011, and has followed that with a submission win over Cub Swanson in November 2011 and a decision win over Hatsu Hioki in June 2012 to establish himself as one of the top contenders at 145 pounds.

Jung has been sidelined since last May due to a shoulder injury, and will return for what will have been a 14-month layoff. He has scored bonuses in all three of his UFC bouts and has become almost a cult figure in the UFC. Jung last fought at UFC On FUEL TV 3 in May, scoring a submission win over Dustin Poirier in the main event, taking home “Submission Of The Night” and “Fight Of The Night” honors.

He scored “Knockout Of The Night” honors for his seven-second knockout win over Mark Hominick at UFC 140 in December 2011, and “Submission Of The Night” honors for his twister submission win over Leonard Garcia in March 2011.

UFC 162 takes place on July 6 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The night’s main card airs on pay-per-view with prelims airing on FX and Facebook. Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman meet for the UFC Middleweight Championship in the night’s main event.
