The official report from backstage is that John Cena was not used on this past week’s Raw because officials knew that current WWE Champion The Rock was not going to be on the show and they did not want to draw attention to that fact. Combine that with the fact that John Cena and The Rock have essentially the same “absentee” feud for the past three years & creative figured it was safer to leave Cena off of TV instead of delivering a lackluster promo when The Rock couldn’t respond.
