DVD Review: Phineas and Ferb: The Perry Files – Animal Agents

DVD Reviews, Reviews

Perry the Platypus has basically stolen Phineas & Ferb from the title stars. Preschools are all about getting Perry t-shirts and stuffed animals. How did this happen? The silent Perry’s battles with Dr. Doofenshmirtz and his evil invention are more exciting than Phineas & Ferb messing with their annoying sister. Phineas and Ferb: The Perry Files, Animal Agents brings together the best of Perry’s battles along with his fellow OWCA (Organization Without a Cool Acronym) agents.

Turns out Perry isn’t the only pet in the neighborhood that can put on a hat and stop an evil plan from destroy the Tri-state area. Seems like a lot of animals are government employed as evidenced on Animal Agents. They all seem to have fedoras hidden with their chew toys.

While the focus of this collection is Perry and other animal agents, these selections on the DVD are complete episodes. They didn’t just isolate the Perry action from the home life. You see how by day he’s just a strange house pet, but when he gets the call from Major Monogram, he transforms into Agent P. His ability to stifle Dr. Doofenshmirtz is like a less mean version of Spy vs. Spy. He knows exactly how to stop the latest plot of the mad scientist without making it too scary for young viewers. It’s easy to see why this teal colored exotic pet would captivate the attention of preschoolers and younger elementary school kids. The other agents of O.W.C.A. includes a panda, a chicken, a cat and two dogs. All the animals look good in their spy hats. Phineas and Ferb: The Perry Files, Animal Agents is perfect for the kid agent who feels the B story is the A story on the show.

The mix keeps the musical segments from overwhelming the speakers. There are also French and Spanish dub tracks. Since Perry doesn’t talk, you won’t lose him in translation. The subtitles are English, Spanish and French.

Take Two with Phineas and Ferb
is a talkshow hosted by the animated cast. This resembles the old Space Ghost Coast to Coast show without it being so weird. Guests include Ben Stiller, Cedric the Entertainer, David Beckham, Jason Segel, Shaun White and Miss Piggy.

Spy Kit has goodies for future Agent Ps. Included is an ID card, binoculars, O.W.C.A. stationary and agent information cards.

Phineas and Ferb: The Perry Files, Animal Agents picks the best adventures of the undercover platypus and his fellow pet spies. Preschoolers will be excited about the spy kit that lets them play along with Agent P.
