Ryback spoke to NorthJersey.com to promote WrestleMania 29. Here are some highlights:
Ryback says his 2010 leg injury was “the best thing that ever could have happened to me.”
On Skip Sheffield, he says, “Deep down in my heart I knew I couldn’t do what I needed to do with the name ‘Skip Sheffield … It’s a dopey name. It’s not a name that the general public will get behind, no matter what I’m doing out there. So being away for a year-and-a-half and coming back under my own terms was a blessing in disguise.”
Ryback in being sidelined for Mania last year: “Last year, I was sitting there watching in the stands as I was coming back from a big injury, and it was kind of still up in the air what we were going to do with [my character] … I was remaining positive, but I told myself last year, ‘This was the last one that I’m sitting out [and] I’m going to be a part of the rest of them.’ It was such a horrible feeling not being a part of it.”
Ryback then promotes his match with Mark Henry, claiming “two monsters going out there and it’s going to be a match unlike any other match on the card … I think at the end of the day it’s going to be a match people remember: Ryback lifting Mark Henry over his head Shell-Shocking him and 70,000 plus screaming at the top of their lungs ‘Feed Me More’ with me.”
Lastly, Ryback said Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, and Scott Hall are his wrestling influences, even going as far as to say that his “Finish It” taunt (where he uses his arms) is an homage to the old Razor Ramon arm taunts.
